World Environment Day 2021: Restoring Ecosystems

World Environment Day 2021: Restoring Ecosystems

Once again, Laken joins the celebration of World Environment Day, which takes place every June 5th to raise awareness and generate action on current environmental issues.

As claimed by the United Nations, this date is a great opportunity to review our achievements and renew our determination to overcome the environmental challenges facing the world today.

Celebrated since 1974, #WorldEnvironmentDay is a vital platform to promote progress on the environment-related Sustainable Development Goals. Governments, major corporations, non-governmental organisations, local communities, celebrities and citizens around the world join the Day and participate in the celebrations each year to support the cause.

This year, the host is Pakistan and the theme is "Restoring Ecosystems".

Around this theme, explained in this video, an extensive campaign has been developed that invites to "Reimagine. Recreate. Restore".

Although we cannot turn back the clock, we can take hundreds, thousands of small and large actions to prevent climate catastrophe, stop the rising tide of pollution and waste and halt the loss of biodiversity. We can all play a part in protecting what is left and repairing what has been damaged. Here you can download a guide with lots of ideas to take action. Sometimes, it can be as simple as giving visibility...

Bring back forests  Revive our mountains  Revive our oceans

Laken is joining the change.

We know that there are not many opportunities left, that it is time to join the #GenerationRestoration, and that is why in Laken we have been implementing multiple initiatives that help us to be a little more sustainable every day and that you can consult here. Because we know that manufacturing reusable bottles and other containers is not enough. Because we understand that we also have to take care of the production processes, the sources of raw materials and energy, waste management and even the packaging with which we send our products and the way we do it, our commitment to the environment evolves and strengthens day by day. And it will continue to do so.

On this occasion, World Environment Day takes on special significance because it marks the official launch of the United Nations Decade for Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030.

Ecosystems support all life on Earth.

The healthier they are, the healthier the planet and its inhabitants. The UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration aims to prevent, halt and reverse ecosystem degradation on all continents and in all oceans. This can help end poverty, combat climate change and prevent mass extinction. But the movement will only succeed if everyone participates.

Visit the initiative's website and find out how you can be part of this change that, fortunately, is here to stay.
