Back to school: which bottle or thermos to choose by age

Botella infantil LAKEN, ideal para la vuelta al cole

Every back-to-school season brings the same question: which bottle can survive a whole school year without breaking, getting lost, or leaking inside the backpack? The answer changes quite a bit depending on age.

Preschool and primary school: prioritise lightness and ease of use

At this age, what usually fails isn't the bottle itself but how it's used: it falls, it opens on its own inside the backpack, or kids struggle to close it properly by themselves.

  • Small capacities (0.35-0.45L) that don't weigh down the backpack
  • Simple caps that open and close without help
  • Colours and illustrations that make it easy to spot among several others in the classroom

Secondary school: more capacity and more durability

Here the priorities change: longer school days, sport after class, and less patience for refilling the bottle several times.

  • Capacities from 0.5L to 0.75L
  • A stainless steel thermal bottle if there's physical activity or a long commute
  • A more neutral design, built to last several school years

Does a food thermos make sense?

If the schedule includes eating away from home, a food thermos means not depending on a microwave that isn't always available. It's not just for adults: in a smaller size, it works just as well for a school lunchbox.

Tip from the LAKEN team

Whatever the age, check the cap before September: it's the part that suffers most during the school year, and replacing it in time prevents most soggy-backpack surprises.
