What type of bottle should I choose: aluminium or stainless steel?

Both are perfectly ok and they reach the minimum standards LAKEN requires for the production of its bottles: eco-friendly, sustainable, they are in accordance with the most stringent healthy regulations. Aluminium drinking bottles are somewhat lighter than stainless steel ones, but they are not thermo bottles. Main feature of stainless steel bottles is its extraordinary thermal performance. All our products are tested at independent labs for an extreme attention regarding compliance with health regulations in all countries where a LAKEN bottle is sold. Our traceability procedures are the total guarantee that the product reaches the customer is perfect to be used.

I've heard aluminium bottles could be dangerous for health, depending on the inner coating they have. Could it be dangerous to choose an aluminium LAKEN bottle?

No way. It is true there are aluminium drinking bottles in the market (most of them made in Far East) which are not in accordance with FDA or EEC healthy regulations. These bottles have no lining at all or the lining is an epoxy based lining that can leach substances which can potentially be harmful for your health. The inner coating used in our bottles is based on a two component polyamide offers a total security for your health and its production does not contain any trace of bisphenol A, phthalates or other substances that may be hazardous. With no trace of these components it is impossible our lining could leach any of these substances. Moreover, our quality control department determines periodic tests and demand traceability in the production of raw materials of all our suppliers.

Does any LAKEN bottle have any trace of bisphenol A or other hazardous substances?

Do all stainless steel bottles have the same quality?

Of course not. Stainless steel LAKEN bottles are made from high quality, 18/8, food-grade stainless steel (18% chromium, 8% nickel). Chromium increases the metal's hardness and nickel gives it strength. Together they also make stainless steel highly resistant to stain or rust.

Could nickel affect my health?

Nickel is resistant to corrosion and is therefore used to make metal alloys such as the stainless steel we use. There is some people sensitive to nickel but our stainless steel has a low nickel content.

Could the paint on a LAKEN be dangerous for health?

Not at all. We paint our bottles at our factory in Spain and we just work with worldwide famous manufacturers of paint. Our requirements before the approval of any paint are very demanding. Our suppliers shall certify their paints are in accordance with the regulations we demand. On top of that, we do our own tests at independent laboratories to double check the paints are in accordance with the required international healthy regulations.

Can I fill my LAKEN with juice?

Yes. You can even fill your LAKEN with acidic beverages such as apple or orange juice. Both our aluminium and high quality stainless steel bottles are suitable to be used with this type of beverages.

Can I use my LAKEN with milk or milkshakes?

Yes. No problem.

Can I fill my LAKEN with alcoholic beverages?

Why some bottles sweat?

Single wall metal bottles, as our aluminium ones, if you have a cold drink in them and it's hot out, you're going to have condensation build-up on the bottle. Our stainless steel thermo bottles, as they're insulated, they will not have condensation build-up on the outside, regardless of what's inside them or temperature outside.

What is stainless steel and what does 18/8 stand for?

Stainless steel is an iron-containing alloy made from some basic elements: iron ore, chromium, nickel, carbon, silicon, manganese and nitrogen. The properties of the final metal change depending on varying amounts of these elements. There are more than 57 different types of stainless steel on the market. Stainless steel LAKEN bottles are made from high quality 18/8 food grade stainless steel. The numbers stand for the percentages of chromium and nickel in the steel : 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Together they make stainless steel highly resistant to stain or rust and gives it strength.

Can I put my LAKEN in the freezer?

No, we do not recommend putting your LAKEN in the freezer. The force of liquids expanding as they freeze can cause your LAKEN to become deformed.

Can I put my LAKEN in the microwave?

Metal water bottles can't be used in the microwave.

Are LAKEN bottles dishwasher safe?

We do not recommend using a dishwasher to clean your LAKEN. The paint of the bottle could get damaged depending on the type of cleaning powder you use and if the washing temperature is above 90ºC. But if the bottle has no paint (plain stainless steel or aluminium) there is no problem to use your dishwasher.

How do I clean my LAKEN?

We recommend washing your LAKEN with hot, soapy water, rinsing well and air-drying with the cap off. If the bottle sits with liquid for an extended period of time, we recommend a soak of white vinegar with water or baking soda with water, scrubbing with a bristled dish brush and washing and rinsing normally.

What should I do before the first use?

We recommend washing your LAKEN with hot, soapy water, rinsing well and your LAKEN is ready to be used.

Can I use my LAKEN with very hot liquids?

If you have a LAKEN stainless steel bottle, you can use it as a thermo bottle. But we highly recommed using caution when drinking hot beverages directly from the bottle. Extremely hot liquids can scald the user. If you use your LAKEN with our "Jannu" cap, the liquids should not be too hot, when you open the spout, inside pressure could make splash some drops which could burn you. If you use a regular thread cap, there is less risk of burn, nevertheless, we highly recommed using caution when drinking hot beverages directly from the bottle as it has an amazing insulating performace and the liquid could be very hot.

I can't get the smell/taste of something out of my bottle. What can I do?

We recommend you to give a good scrub with a brush and hot soapy water. If it does not work, try mixing a quarter cup of vinegar and 3-4 tablespoons of baking soda in warm water and let is soak in your LAKEN overnight. Often the problem is in the cap. Scrub it well, including around the ring. You can also soak any cap overnight in the same mixture of vinegar and baking soda you use for soaking the bottle. After that, you should wash it as usual (warm and soapy water). Rinse it well and your LAKEN is ready again.

I dropped my LAKEN and dented or scratched the paint. Is the inner part ok? Can I continue using it?

Our 2 years warranty covers manufacturer's defects only, not damaged caused by using or dropping your bottle. In case of aluminium drinking bottles you can continue using it without any problem. Its extremely elastic lining will not get damaged as a consequence of a blow. In case your LAKEN is a stainless steel thermo bottle, it will remain totally safe and free of harmful substances, but the blow could have affected the isolation. If so, you could continue using your bottle as a normal (not thermal) drinking bottle.

Can I disassemble the cap for a better cleaning?

Yes, but we recommend it is only disassembled by an adult as it could contain some small pieces which could be dangerous for children in case of accidental swallow. Some of our caps have overmoulded gasket. In these cases (Futura caps in aluminium bottles and Hit caps in case of both aluminium and stainless steel bottles) it is not possible to disassemble the gasket.
